We at CATS, Inc. know that strong leaders are made, not born. Coaching is one of the ways that managers can grow and hone those leadership and managerial skills necessary for success in today’s fast paced environment.
You may want to focus on attaining specific goals or changing particular behaviors. Or you may want to recapture your professional passions. Personalized, individual or group coaching can help you meet your goals for professional and personal success.
What is coaching?
Coaching is a process of working on your specific goals with a professional coach. The coach helps you determine your short and long term goals as well as identify your strengths and weaknesses. Together you decide on an action plan. The coach may make suggestions and observations that you may not have noticed. You make a commitment to change and your coach helps you stay on track to meet your goals. The focus of coaching is where you want to be and how to get there. The results can be greater job satisfaction and enhanced professional skills.
Coaching is NOT therapy. If you decide you want to address issues that are better discussed with a psychotherapist, your coach may recommend that you seek an appropriate therapist.
Who uses a coach?
Anyone who wants to make positive changes in their life! Some clients want to focus on specific behaviors such as getting more organized, delegating effectively, or communicating without intimidating. Other clients want to accomplish a specific goal such as attaining a promotion or going back to school. While senior level managers and executives have used coaches for many years to help them be successful, the coaches of CATS, Inc., also work with middle and front line managers. We know that a manager who is coached sees changes quickly, changes that bring personal and professional satisfaction and trickle down to impact the entire team. Managers who have been coached are better able to coach their own team members resulting in positive outcomes that extend far beyond the
individual manager.
How does coaching work?
One of the advantages of coaching is that it can happen over the phone! There is no need to leave your office or home.
Initially the coach will ask the client to complete some questionnaires to identify goals and possible obstacles. The client may identify a specific outcome that will be the “end point” of the coaching. A schedule for coaching sessions is set up. Individual coaching sessions usually last 30 minutes with weekly or biweekly sessions. Group coaching sessions usually last an hour with weekly or biweekly sessions.
For each session, the client calls the coach at a pre-arranged phone number. In between sessions, the client may have a homework assignment to complete.
